What’s In Your Toolbox? For Water in the Electrics…

If you get a boat a little bit damp inside, then at some time you’ll likely get erratic electrics. It’s a general radio sailing challenge of course, not just Marbleheads. If you’re new to this radio sailing sport then you’ll be wondering what can be done about it.

Not being funny, …but since I started racing a loan boat this year, the owner thrust a jar of vaseline into my hand and said that I should always smear a little of the grease around the thread of the pot-lid. I’ve done it religiously before each race session and I must admit, his boat sails bone dry every day.

What if water ingress is not through the pot-lid? A Datchet member revealed that he uses a water repellent spray called “Corrosion X” on the electric terminals and absolutely swears by its effectiveness.

You can read all about Corrosion X by clicking on the link below. Interesting – I suspect I’ll just have to get a small can to try out and keep in the tool box.

Datchet Race Report – Sunday 13th August

Great breezes today. In line with our programme, the Marbleheads were tucked under their duvets for the day and the chaps got their One Metres out. There was great competitive spirit as a number of members from neighbouring clubs with seasonal weed challenges, came to limber up for the Nationals (26-28 August, Fleetwood ) against the Datchet members. Super racing!

Report from our Leader follows !! :-

“Good wind and waves this weekend. Saturday saw it blowing with only myself and Graham in attendance with 10’s so we spent the morning chatting!
Today saw 8 IOM’s with top rigs to start and then no2 rig later. 9 races with 2 discards saw Craig on 10pts, Nigel 14, David Lindsay 19, David Adam 20, Phil 28, guests Rob on 36 and Simon on 39. Peter Haskell had annoying radio issues and had to finish sailing early but did the scoring for the rest of us, thank you.
Lots of fun all round with smiling faces in the club afterwards. So much so that we are going to do it all over again next Saturday. All welcome, IOM on Saturday and Marbleheads on Sunday.”

Putting Your Hull Number on Your New Marblehead?

One of my IOM colleagues, Peter, pointed me to this website today to design and buy hull numbers:-
