Race Report Sunday – Marbleheads !!

Results from yesterday’s Marbleheads.

Rain delayed the start somewhat on the north course, which was chosen due to the SSW A rig breeze.  It later shifted to the SW so a move to the south course.

7 skippers turned up, but 6 started as Graham had radio/winch problems and did not compete.  Launching on the Club Pontoon in the very slippery conditions had two skippers having a slip with Phil unkowningly damaging his boat.  In all we managed 9 races,  however the slips and other issues meant Phil and Les had quite a few DNCs.

Nigel managed a very credible 6 wins with other wins by Richard Uttley, Phil and Hugh.
Nigel’s 6 wins won him the day with 8 points.  Hugh was second with 13 points.  Third was Richard Uttley with 20 points, then Phil 29 and finally Les with 33 points.

This Thursday, hopefully the DFs can organise themselves and the Saturday is Tens and Sunday IOMs.   The Waszps are swarming next weekend but this not affect our sailing apart from when they launch and recover. For the Tens it will be their first of the Spring Series so hopefully we can achieve a reasonable number!

Receiver Experiment Comparisons….

At least three of us at Datchet are experimenting with receivers that come with Radiomaster. It’s interesting to compare with the regular Futaba Receivers.

You’ll notice that the Radiomaster unit has only channels one to three that we need. The first implication seems to be a substantial physical size reduction.

The next thing that caught my attention was the absence of dangly wire radio antennae. I know, I know – we shall see how it goes and report back!!

Like the Tour de France cyclists, we are in a sport which recognises the sum of marginal gains. If you’re in a weight sensitive class like Marblehead, you might also be intrigued by the weight comparison:-

Interesting!
