IOM UK Nationals …. Designs !!

As at 28th February we had 48 entries showing for the Nationals. There’ll be a few more to come.

At four dozen, it doesn’t seem too soon to see how the entry population looks as far as designs are concerned. What is happening at the sharp end of the UK Fleet?

Not at all surprising that the most popular design in the fleet will be the fabulous Britpop – making up a third of the Fleet.

Quite surprising is the number of Venti now …. almost 20% of the fleet and you get a feeling that popularity is really growing. Momentum behind Venti is starting to build now.

Big surprise is the Proteus – after only a year (is it less?? I forget…) of home builds, already 10% of the Championship Fleet. With more and more coming off the home printing lines, it’s already exceeding the Alioth and Viss. Interesting. Just wait until the K7 glassfibre boats hit the market, eh?

Really Nice Video of NB’s New Viss…!!

For the IOM Worlds we are anxious to review all ways that we might live-stream the Event during May.

This morning NB has sent over this rather unique footage of his new Viss in action.

Have a look and see what you think !

Tens on Saturday 23rd and IOM’s On Sunday 24th – Nigel’s New VISS ….!!

Ten Raters were on Saturday – no wind though!! Commodore said they had to push the boats out then had a long drift to get them back again!! RW brought along his new Trance – what a looker that boat is !!

Then to IOM Sunday and Phil’s Report :-

Low water level today meant we could walk along the lower beach on the North shore, by next week we should be able to drive down to the waters edge.

The first sighting at Datchet of the new VISS design from Sailboat RC – yes, Nigel’s new beauty has arrived !!

Eight IOM’s today including guests Ken McAlpine and Harry Neil. Shifty light winds and lack of buoys to set a good course didn’t make life easy but Craig (Proteus) , Nigel (Viss) , Dorian (Britpop) and David (V12) dominated at the front of the fleet.

First couple of races didn’t get scored (Jim did well !!) while boats were sorted and tweaked but we did score four races before adjourning for lunch. Craig, Nigel and Dorian practiced after lunch while Phil & Jim recovered a few of the grounded marks and reset them further into the lake.
