Race Report – Marbleheads, March 30th…!!

On Sunday five Marblehead skippers were out in B Rigs, which at times really should have been C1s. We got ten races in!!


The wind direction was NNW which meant the North course and this kept the 44 Waszps away from us and the usual fleet of Club boats meant that the Southern area was crowded!


Results from 10 races
Phil 11 pts and 5 wins
Hugh 14 pts and 5 wins 
David A 19pts
Richard U 28 pts
Graham H was tail end Charlie and was a bit poorly, though still able to put away a bacon and egg roll (Ed : AND a Kit Kat..!!). at lunch time.

Results from last weekend:

We had around five or even six members racing the IOM Rankings up in distant Scarborough, so our turn out for the weekend was our hard core! Welcome Andrew Granger to the DF95s on Saturday too!!


There was no formal racing for the 95s on Saturday, though 3 brave souls faced the bitter NE’ly breeze for some sailing and practice. Well done Andrew, Geoffrey and Phil.
On Sunday the weather was no warmer, but four of us raced with our Marbleheads. David A also appeared, but due to a brain malfunction did not bring the correct combination of required boat bits!!! Phil attempted to lend him a boat but repeated technical troubles meant no racing for David, the delay gave three of time to realise that A Rig was too much and so change to B Rigs.  We managed 8 races in the cold NE’ly which was shifty coming over the club at the windward mark.

Results from the weekend.


Saturday saw four 95s in a light breeze on the south course, we managed 8 races in two batches of four with a coffee break and a trim.  Geoffrey had a bad day on the water but happy to be sailing and at times the racing was very close with Phil and Hugh battling most of the day with Peter ready to snap at their heels when the opportunities arose.
Phil. 8 points and 4 wins 
Hugh 9 points with 3 wins
Peter 14 points with 1 win
Geoffrey 24 points

On Sunday we had four Marbleheads including Richard Uttley’s brand new F-6 on the water for the first time.  We again managed 8 races this time on the north course, again with four before and after coffee.  Richard Jones had an unfortunate communication glitch in the first race after coffee and this proved terminal for him which was bad news for him because although scoring four fourths before coffee was often close to the others for many of his four races.  Richard Uttley had his F-6 going very well out of the box to the extent of  scoring a bullet in race 5.  As Mr Uttley only came with a lightweight A and a B.  We all agreed on B, thought for most of the time we were a bit under powered upwind, despite the two rigs being nominally the same area.
