Datchet Race Report – Sunday 13th August

Great breezes today. In line with our programme, the Marbleheads were tucked under their duvets for the day and the chaps got their One Metres out. There was great competitive spirit as a number of members from neighbouring clubs with seasonal weed challenges, came to limber up for the Nationals (26-28 August, Fleetwood ) against the Datchet members. Super racing!

Report from our Leader follows !! :-

“Good wind and waves this weekend. Saturday saw it blowing with only myself and Graham in attendance with 10’s so we spent the morning chatting!
Today saw 8 IOM’s with top rigs to start and then no2 rig later. 9 races with 2 discards saw Craig on 10pts, Nigel 14, David Lindsay 19, David Adam 20, Phil 28, guests Rob on 36 and Simon on 39. Peter Haskell had annoying radio issues and had to finish sailing early but did the scoring for the rest of us, thank you.
Lots of fun all round with smiling faces in the club afterwards. So much so that we are going to do it all over again next Saturday. All welcome, IOM on Saturday and Marbleheads on Sunday.”

Fantastic day’s racing at the Club on Sunday. Pretty blowy at times and we had the B Rigs on, in general. Marbleheads were at their most thrilling! I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it! The most fun you can have with your socks on !!

Another great days racing in B & C rigs with 7 boats and 9 races completed. I will do a report for MYA Downwind later.


1st Rohan 11pts, 2nd David 12, 3rd Nigel 19, 4th Phil 22, 5th Les 33, 6th Richard J 35, 7th Graham 37.


Next Marblehead Series Race Session is on 20th.


On Wednesday 23rd there is an evening barbecue at the club, we will be having early evening racing (Marblehead’s) starting at 1700hrs followed by barbecue. Let me know if you are interested and book your place in the barbecue.

Racing Report – July 29th and 30th

After three successive weekends of Marbleheads… and strong breezes, we changed gear to Tens and IOMS… and strong breezes !!

Results from the weekend.

Congratulations to Richard Uttley and Nic Charles winning on Saturday and Sunday respectively.  Four tens starting racing on Saturday in second suits, possibly it should have been Third suits.  Graham had rudder issues and only completed one race.  During the fourth race I lost rudder control and then sheeting and the boat took off heading north of the Castle later to be rescued by a RIB,  on getting the boat ashore it was discovered that a suspect short/overload in the rudder servo had caused a small electrical fire and the servo wiring was still smouldering.  Needless to say this put pay to any further racing for myself and Phil and Richard U decided to give up.

3rd Hugh. 6 pts
4th Graham. 14 pts

On Sunday we had 5 IOMs and Roger who decided not to sail his borrowed boat.  We started in Third (smallest rig) and after 4 races we decided that no. 2 Rig would be OK.  In all we did ten races and the scores were

1st Nic Charles. 10 pts (6 wins)
2nd Hugh. 16 pts
3rd David. 20pts
4th Peter. 30 pts
5th Phil. 36 pts
It’s fair to say that both Peter and Phil had boat issues which accounts for their relatively high points tally.
