Racing Results – Sunday 2nd February (Marbleheads)…!!

5 skippers turned up for the first of our Marblehead Spring Series today. With little or no wind to start the day competition for the bacon butties was fierce but a light breeze from the South soon after 10am enabled us to set a course and with everyone sailing a F6 there was close racing throughout. Rob and Phil exchanged places regularly with Richard Jones, Jim LaRoche and Graham Hetem fighting for the third podium slot. A few electrical and radio issues jumbled the mix and wins were recorded by Phil, Graham and Richard. Final result after 7 races showed Phil on top with 11, Rob with 14, Graham 15, Jim 21 and Richard 24.

Marblehead Sunday – Spring Series Starter – February 2nd… !!

Fantastic day at Datchet today – the Club was very lively with Club Racing, plus 70 ILCA’s around the place – we had a jolly galley and Clubroom ! The first day of the Spring Series – We had around half a dozen Marbleheads which given the temperature was pretty good 🙂

It was whisper light for the first part of the morning – the ILCAs seemed to stay ashore, but of course we could get the Marbleheads going pretty well. We got some terrific races in – Rob was there developing his new F6 and going like a rocket. Graham has his new self built Red Ant swing rig in action – going jolly well too. Around midday some proper breeze arrived and another few epic races were completed. For myself, I learned a whole load about swing rigs today – members are really friendly and supportive.

Lots of chatter in the bar afterwards about the 2026 IOM Datchet worlds. Was great to hear!

Results to follow.

Winch Servicing and Repairs…

Our winches take a bit of a pasting, don’t they – really hard working pieces of the boat. Having a winch you can maintain is an important subject.

At the weekend, the very important subject of winch servicing and repair came up. I guess in our fleet we are pretty evenly split between RMG and Stinger.

The key piece of advice is to always keep your MYA Members Year-book on hand. In there, you will find the UK companies supporting the various winch manufacturers. For myself, I’ve had great support on my Stinger winches from K7yachts. Contact details are all in the MYA year-book.
