Winch Servicing and Repairs…

Our winches take a bit of a pasting, don’t they – really hard working pieces of the boat. Having a winch you can maintain is an important subject.

At the weekend, the very important subject of winch servicing and repair came up. I guess in our fleet we are pretty evenly split between RMG and Stinger.

The key piece of advice is to always keep your MYA Members Year-book on hand. In there, you will find the UK companies supporting the various winch manufacturers. For myself, I’ve had great support on my Stinger winches from K7yachts. Contact details are all in the MYA year-book.

Marblehead-uary … February Marblehead Events!!

February will turn out to be a big month for Marbleheads at Datchet…

We have Marblehead GAMES2 on Saturday 15th and a two day Ranking Event on the weekend of 22nd/23rd February.

So two things:-

1/. If you are going to enter, please load your enrolment via the MYA Events page so we can see where we are on numbers.

2/ If you are not racing, but would love to help out, then our Sailing Secretary, Hugh, is calling for volunteers for the event roster. If you do not have Hugh’s contact points then just drop us a members-whatsapp or pop us an email on the CONTACT page of this website. (see menu bar above). All hands really welcome. Loads to do.

IOM Sunday – What a Breeze! (Storm Eowyn!!)

We had a good fleet of IOMs on Sunday. We had nine put their names down in WhatsApp, and possibly eight or seven in attendance. And Boy… did it blow!! We went out on B Rigs and later moved to C Rigs.

The club was bustling with an inter-university team race championship so there were firefly dinghies zooming all over the place. At 11am the proper gusts (40-50mph) were meant to arrive. I happened to be standing on the end of the pontoon when the first squall arrived – practically blew me off my feet. The Club lifejacket rule makes sense!

As the students came in, so do did our B rigged fleet. We all huddled in the clubhouse, then suddenly Craig, Nigel and Dorian fancied a C rig outing and off they went. Immense fun to watch.
