Race Manangement – On Rainy Days!!

We all had a fine time over at the Marblehead Ranking 1 at Chipstead on Saturday. Weather was great there, actually. A super day out. Great turnout – 20 registered and 19 showed on the line. Strong turnout from Datchet.

The Club had a really simple innovation for protecting race results sheets at the finish line on a rainy or blowy day. Take a look at this – a Snug for Results Sheets !!

The flap with a window opens up wide enough to get your hand and pen inside to write the results, then can be closed flat. Low cost and worth a try?

Another Take on Radio Controlled Marker Buoys….

For some time we have been experimenting with GPS Racing Marks. It’s early days for this type of technology. I suppose we feel it is promising, but not yet perfected.

Out of the blue, this video below has come up on YouTube. It’s a whole different way of looking at the same challenge. I suspect because of our very deep water (80 feet – no weed!) that it cannot work for us, but for loads of shallow water lake settings it could be a great answer.

Basically, it is a self propelled radio controlled buoy that drops and manages its own anchor. Clever.

Take a look and see what you think.

The Club launches a new DF95 Series with Two New Loan Boats….

The clubs new 95’s ready to go, Just add water.

Datchet have acquired two new DF95s as loan boats to encourage newcomers to take up the sport.  The club are introducing a series for the DF95 class to take place on alternate Saturdays on the same weekend as Sunday Marbleheads. This coming Saturday (17th) will be the first date and we will have a one-off day of racing for all those interested in sailing DF95’s regularly and to decide amongst the members how they would like to progress a regular series. We are also encouraging mid week sailing which is currently suggested to be on Wednesdays but could just as easily be on a different day. Anyone who is interested or who has a DF95 already is encouraged to come this Saturday to discuss formats and dates. If you want to try one of the new club boats then please email us via the contact page of this website.
