Datchet Radio Sailing
We are a passionate group of radio racers, competing in Marbleheads, International One Metres (IOMs) and Ten Raters. If we can get the numbers of interested people, we would love to welcome members who are keen on the DF95.
Unlike many clubs, our water is so big we can easily co-exist with other sailing fleets. Consequently our main racing days are Saturdays and Sundays, 52 weekends a year. Well, possibly 50… The main club at our reservoir finds that, post pandemic, its busiest day of the week is a Wednesday. We would like start a DF95 Fleet and that just might be popular with a mid-week audience.

Our lake is more of an inland ocean – 475 acres and 80 feet deep, built way above ground level (cleaner breezes), no weed !! It contains one third of London’s water supplies.
Our radio sailing control area is a smooth tarmac surface elevated above the water on both our north and south courses. It’s like being in a stadium looking down. The water and club are open Wednesday to Sunday each week, year round. During 2025, the Club will also experiment with opening on Monday and Tuesday during the period April 1st to September 30th. Parking at or near the control area is usually easy.

The clubhouse has a great cafe bar open Wednesdays and weekends.
You can find the club on the Horton Road with your Satnav using postcode SL3 9NT. The What3Words address of the main gate is RABBLE.POOLS.AWAIT . It’s very close to M25-M4 intersection. You can use M4 J5 or M25 J14 to get there.
The Club is situated on Corporately owned, private land. The gate is normally locked for security reasons, so let your host know to come down and let you in, or phone the office in advance to make a mutually convenient appointment on 01753 683872 (Office staffed Wednesdays to Sundays). You can also email us via the address shown on the Contacts page on this website. The key thing to remember is that for safety and security purposes, a host is required for any non-member to enter the site.
Datchet Radio Sailing is an MYA Club affiliated to Datchet Water Sailing Club. They are kind and considerate hosts to us, but like anyone else on site we are expected to abide by the Club Rules. This includes a mandatory buoyancy-aid rule for any sailing activity (including radio sailing – let us know if you don’t have a buoyancy-aid) and a well defined “visitor policy”. A visitor needs a nominated member to host them and can be signed in to the Club up to six times a year for social visits. However, a visitor can only use the reservoir once in any calendar year before they are expected to apply for a membership. (Open Meetings and Championships excepted).
